Andy Jacobson Obituary:Sierra Canyon Community Remembers Beloved Member of More Than 30 Years

CHATSWORTH, CALIFORNIA — The Sierra Canyon community is heartbroken after sharing the news that Andy Jacobson, a beloved member of the Sierra Canyon community for more than 30 years, has passed away following a difficult illness.

In a letter to the Sierra Canyon community, Head of School Stephanie Rubin and Head of School Emeritus Jim Skrumbis announced the devastating loss of a man who was so much more than a vendor — he was family.

“It is with great sadness that we share the news that Andy Jacobson, a beloved member of the Sierra Canyon community for more than 30 years, has passed away following a difficult illness,” the school shared.

Andy was deeply committed to students, families, faculty, and staff. He loved food, he loved people, and he truly loved being part of the Sierra Canyon community. That joy was evident in everything he did.

As the owner of California Fresh Foods, Andy led a team that served nearly three million meals to Sierra Canyon students and campers. For generations of Trailblazers, his food was part of the school day — and his legendary barbecue spareribs became a beloved tradition at every home football game. It was a taste of Sierra Canyon that alumni will never forget.

But what made Andy so special was the person behind it all.

“He had an incredible sense of humor, the kindest heart, and a remarkable ability to make people feel known,” the school said. “He knew generations of students, parents, faculty, and staff by name, a testament to how deeply he cared about our community.”

Few people have been part of Sierra Canyon for as long as Andy. For over three decades, he was there for the first days of school, the championship games, the summer camps, and the everyday lunches that bring a campus together.

“His legacy can be found not only in the meals he served but in the relationships he built, the traditions he helped create, and the countless lives he touched along the way. He is part of the fabric of Sierra Canyon’s history, and he will be deeply missed.”

Andy is survived by his loving wife, Michelle; his daughters, Ivy and Emmy; his brother, Bob; and the entire California Fresh Foods team who worked alongside him.

The school has asked the community to keep Andy’s family and team in their thoughts during this difficult time. Sierra Canyon will honor Andy’s remarkable legacy with a memorial on campus, and additional details will be shared as plans are finalized.

The loss will be felt deeply by generations of Sierra Canyon families who had the privilege of knowing him over the years — families who knew that Andy wasn’t just feeding them, he was caring for them.

Our most heartfelt and deepest condolences go out to Michelle, Ivy, Emmy, Bob, the California Fresh Foods family, and the entire Sierra Canyon community.

Rest peacefully, Andy. Three million meals served, countless hearts touched, and a legacy that will forever be part of Sierra Canyon.
