MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Cordova apartment community is reeling after a deadly shooting Thursday morning claimed the life of a woman and sparked a tense manhunt for the suspected shooter.
Memphis Police Department officials said Larry Berry is the suspect accused of killing the woman at the Trinity Lakes Apartments complex off Germantown Parkway. Authorities said Berry fled the scene with the victim’s two children following the shooting.
Officers responded at approximately 7:30 a.m. Thursday to an apartment on Racquetball Court, where they discovered a woman suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite emergency efforts, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police initially reported that the two juveniles could not be located, prompting an urgent search. Authorities later confirmed that the children were found safe in Robinsonville, Mississippi.
Investigators said Berry and the victim had a previous relationship. The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under investigation as detectives continue working to determine what led to the deadly encounter.
The tragedy marks the second deadly incident at the Trinity Lakes Apartments complex in just two days. On Wednesday, another man was killed in a separate violent incident at the same complex, with another individual facing a murder charge in that case.
The latest shooting has left residents shaken as the community confronts back-to-back acts of violence.
Memphis Police are asking anyone with information about Berry’s whereabouts or details related to the investigation to contact CrimeStoppers at 901-528-CASH. Authorities urge anyone who sees Berry not to approach him and to contact law enforcement immediately.
The victim’s family, friends, and the Cordova community are now mourning a life lost too soon while investigators continue searching for answers.
This remains an active and ongoing investigation.
