BEAUFORT, S.C. — The City of Beaufort/Town of Port Royal Fire Department is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Firefighter/EMT Raul Pacheco, who tragically died in an off-duty vehicle accident on Saturday, August 22.
Pacheco had recently joined the department through the Department of Defense SkillBridge Program as he transitioned from his service in the United States Marine Corps. During his military career, he proudly served in Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting with Marine Wing Support Squadron 273 at MCAS Beaufort.
Although Raul had been part of the local fire department for only a short time, colleagues said he quickly made a meaningful impression. He arrived with what the department described as a servant’s heart, a willingness to learn, and a strong commitment to becoming the best fire service professional he could be.
His death has left firefighters, Marines, family members, and friends grieving a man whose life was defined by service to others.
Raul is survived by his wife and son, along with extended family, friends, fellow Marines, and members of the fire service community. The department expressed its deepest condolences to everyone affected by his sudden passing.
For those who served alongside him, Raul’s transition from Marine service to the fire department represented the beginning of a new chapter built around the same values of courage, teamwork, leadership, and protecting others.
His death is a painful reminder of the risks faced not only by those serving while on duty, but also by the families and communities who stand behind them.
As Beaufort and Port Royal mourn, colleagues are remembering Raul not only for the uniform he wore, but for the dedication and compassion he brought to his service.
Raul Pacheco dedicated his life to serving his country and preparing to serve his community. His sacrifice, service, and memory will not be forgotten.
