The Moberly, Missouri community is mourning the tragic loss of Cheryl Gravitt, a 57-year-old woman who died after suffering gunshot injuries in an incident now being investigated as a homicide.
According to Moberly Police Chief Bobby Calvert, officers responded around 7:10 p.m. Sunday, August 23, to the 500 block of Morehead after receiving reports of a woman found injured outside a residence. Responding officers discovered Cheryl Gravitt on the ground with head trauma and a possible gunshot wound.
Cheryl was transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment, but despite efforts to save her life, she was later pronounced dead. The Randolph County Coroner has ruled her death a homicide and has requested an autopsy as investigators continue working to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
A joint investigation involving the Randolph County Coroner’s Office, Randolph County Sheriff’s Office, and Missouri State Highway Patrol is currently underway. Authorities have stated that the investigation remains active and that additional information will be released as it becomes available.
News of Cheryl Gravitt’s passing has left loved ones and members of the Moberly community grieving the sudden and devastating loss of a woman whose life was taken far too soon.
