CINCINNATI, Ohio — The East Price Hill community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Rakeem Blair Jr., a young boy whose life was tragically cut short after a shooting on August 18, 2026, near the 3700 block of Warsaw Avenue.
According to Rakeem’s family, the child was with other children near a vacant building when a confrontation allegedly unfolded. Family members said the children had been throwing rocks at the abandoned structure when someone inside reportedly came out armed with a gun. Rakeem was struck in the face by gunfire during the incident.
A Metro bus driver who witnessed the aftermath stopped to help and performed CPR on the child until emergency responders arrived. Rakeem was rushed to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital with serious injuries, but his family later confirmed that he did not survive.
The loss has devastated Rakeem’s loved ones, who are now grieving a child remembered as a precious member of their family whose life was taken far too soon.
Adding to the heartbreak, Rakeem Jr.’s death came less than a year after the loss of his father, Rakeem Blair Sr., who was also killed in a shooting in December 2025. The family is now facing the unimaginable pain of losing both a father and his namesake son to gun violence within months of each other.
