BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — The Bakersfield community is mourning the tragic loss of 17-year-old Levi Brown, who was killed in a shooting Friday night at Independence High School during a football game.
According to authorities, Brown was shot while attending the game and was transported to Kern Medical, where he later died from his injuries. His sudden passing has left family, friends, classmates, teammates, and community members grieving the loss of a young life taken far too soon.
The shooting has deeply affected the Independence High School community, where students, staff, and families are coming to terms with the heartbreaking violence that unfolded during what was meant to be a night of school spirit and celebration.
The Bakersfield Police Department announced that a 15-year-old suspect has been arrested in connection with the shooting. Because the suspect is a juvenile, authorities have not released his identity. Police have also stated there is no ongoing threat to the community.
