King City Homicide: Victim Fatally Shot Near Hartnell College Satellite Campus as Monterey County Investigates

KING CITY, Calif. — The King City community is mourning a tragic loss after a person was fatally shot overnight on August 23, prompting a homicide investigation by the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office.

Shortly after midnight, officers with the King City Police Department and deputies from the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of gunshots heard near the Hartnell College satellite campus.

Responding personnel located a person suffering from an apparent gunshot wound near 2nd Street and Lynn Street. Despite emergency efforts, the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation as detectives work to determine the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting.

Authorities are urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident or heard anything unusual in the area to come forward. Residents and businesses are also being asked to review surveillance cameras, doorbell footage, and other video recordings that may have captured activity connected to the investigation.
