Baltimore Police Officer Injured After Being Dragged by Vehicle Before Shooting 29-Year-Old Man During Eutaw Street Incident

BALTIMORE, Md. — A late-night confrontation in downtown Baltimore has sparked an active investigation after a police officer was injured and a 29-year-old man was shot during an incident involving a vehicle being prepared for towing.

The shooting happened shortly after 9:30 p.m. Saturday in the 300 block of North Eutaw Street near Eutaw Street and Saratoga Street, not far from Lexington Market, according to Baltimore police.

Authorities said the incident began when officers issued citations for a vehicle with suspended and expired tags and were waiting for a tow truck to arrive. Police said a man later approached the vehicle, initially denying ownership before acknowledging that the car belonged to him.

According to Baltimore Police Commissioner Richard Worley, officers allowed the man to retrieve personal belongings from the vehicle before the tow process continued.

Police said the situation escalated when the man entered the driver’s seat and attempted to move the vehicle. Officials stated that an officer approached the car while another officer was attempting to position a patrol vehicle to prevent the car from leaving.

Commissioner Worley said the driver put the vehicle into drive and struck the officer, continuing forward despite commands to stop. Police said the officer was dragged a short distance before firing multiple rounds into the vehicle, striking the driver.

The injured officer suffered back and neck injuries and was transported to a hospital for treatment. The 29-year-old man who was shot was also taken for medical care and was reported to be in critical condition.

Bystander video obtained from the scene showed a person wearing a pink tracksuit being removed from a dark blue Acura TL and placed onto a stretcher as emergency crews responded.

A large crowd gathered following the shooting, requiring additional police resources to manage the scene. Authorities said body-worn camera footage from the officers involved is being reviewed as part of the investigation.

The incident remains under investigation as officials work to determine the full sequence of events leading up to the shooting.

Baltimore police are urging the public to avoid speculation while investigators review evidence and statements from those involved.
