McHENRY COUNTY, Ill. — The Chicago-area community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Magdalena Jablonska, 48, a U.S. Marine veteran whose life was tragically cut short in a devastating boating crash on the Fox River in McHenry County.
Jablonska, who immigrated to Chicago from Poland and proudly served her adopted country as a member of the United States Marine Corps, was identified as the woman killed after a speeding boat struck her and her family over the weekend.
According to authorities, Jablonska was enjoying time on the Fox River with loved ones when a high-speed pontoon boat allegedly crashed into their vessel from behind. Prosecutors said the boat was traveling at approximately 80 mph in a restricted slow zone, and the operator, 45-year-old Richard Stevenson, was allegedly intoxicated at the time of the crash.
The impact claimed Jablonska’s life and left her family facing an unimaginable loss. Friends and loved ones are now remembering her as a woman who dedicated herself to serving others and making a difference through both her military service and the relationships she built throughout her life.
