The community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Amber Ann Simmons, a beloved young woman whose life was tragically cut short following an accident on July 27, 2026.
Born on September 7, 2009, Amber was a member of the Class of 2027 and was remembered by family, friends, and loved ones as a bright light whose smile could bring joy to everyone around her. Her sudden passing has left a deep void in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
Amber leaves behind her parents, Todd and Julie Simmons, the Schlappi family, her grandparents Sandy Simmons, Paul and Judy Jackson, Steve and Debbie Stair, Tammy Bush, special aunt Shelby, along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members, and close friends who will forever cherish her memory.
Those closest to Amber describe her as a caring, adventurous, and compassionate young woman who found beauty in the world around her. Her love story with Ethan Schlappi was one of the most special parts of her life. What began as a childhood crush in elementary school grew into a deep relationship filled with love, laughter, and unforgettable memories. For three years, Amber and Ethan shared adventures together, including caring for their beloved animals — ducks, chickens, and their tiger cat Buck — while creating a life full of happiness and connection.
In a heartbreaking turn of events, Ethan passed away just two days before Amber, leaving their families holding onto the belief that the two are now together forever.
Amber’s passions reflected the kind and creative person she was. She developed a love for animals and nature while spending time as her grandfather Paul’s sidekick. She enjoyed cooking alongside her mother and dreamed of attending culinary school. She was also known for her mechanical abilities, always eager to help her father with projects and learn new skills.
She shared special moments with her grandmother Judy through a love of musicals, travel, reading, and exploring bookstores. Amber also found joy in creating thoughtful gifts for the people she loved, showing the generosity and care that defined her personality.
Faith was an important part of Amber’s life, and she was discovering and living out her beliefs while continuing to grow into the person she was meant to become.
One of Amber’s final acts of kindness came from a decision she made shortly after receiving her driver’s license. She chose to become an organ donor, and through a special “Honor Walk” at the hospital, she gave the ultimate gift — the gift of life — allowing others the opportunity to continue living because of her generosity.
Her family says Amber’s legacy will not only be remembered through the memories she created but also through the lives she helped save.
A celebration of Amber’s life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, August 1, 2026, at the Simmons home, located at 9341 West Grand Ledge Highway, Sunfield. Family, friends, and community members are invited to gather, share memories, and honor the incredible young woman Amber was. Guests are encouraged to bring a favorite photo or memory to share.
Memorial contributions in Amber’s memory may be made to the Be Nice Foundation, an organization focused on mental health awareness, reducing stigma, encouraging conversation, and promoting inclusion — causes that were close to Amber’s heart, especially her commitment to kindness and anti-bullying efforts.
Though Amber’s time on Earth was far too short, the love she shared, the lives she touched, and the gifts she gave will continue to carry her memory forward.
