CRISP COUNTY, Georgia — The Ashburn and Crisp County communities are mourning the heartbreaking loss of Darian Taylor, 19, who died in a tragic drowning accident at Lake Blackshear on August 1, 2026.
According to the Crisp County Sheriff’s Office, emergency dispatchers received a report of a possible drowning at approximately 3:00 p.m. after a male swimmer entered the water near the floating dock and was not seen again.
Witnesses at the scene immediately attempted to help and searched for the missing swimmer, but they were unable to locate him. Public safety crews quickly responded as the search effort intensified.
The Sumter County Dive Team arrived and assisted with recovery efforts. At approximately 4:20 p.m., divers located and recovered the victim from the water. Authorities later identified him as Darian Taylor of Ashburn, Georgia.
The sudden loss of the 19-year-old has left family, friends, and community members devastated as they grieve a young life that ended far too soon.
Officials expressed gratitude to all emergency responders and agencies who assisted during the recovery effort, including those who worked tirelessly to bring closure to Darian’s loved ones.
