BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS — The family of 18-year-old Yoseliani Marte is mourning her tragic death after she was found fatally shot inside a Boston home in the Mattapan neighborhood.
Boston police responded to the residence around 1:52 p.m. Saturday after receiving a report of a shooting. When officers arrived, they found Marte suffering from a gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Marte’s family has since identified her publicly, with her mother describing her death as the result of domestic violence in a fundraising campaign established in her memory. Family and friends later gathered for a vigil to honor the young woman and remember the life she was taken from far too soon.
The property where the shooting occurred is reportedly owned by Conan Harris, the husband of U.S. Rep. Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts. Public records indicate that the couple does not live at the residence, which has been described as a rental property.
A spokesperson for Pressley’s office said neither the congresswoman nor her family was involved in the incident. Pressley also expressed condolences to Marte’s loved ones following the devastating loss.
