CAJON PASS, CALIFORNIA — The Victorville community and the college basketball world are mourning the heartbreaking loss of Jhenéy Wallace, a 20-year-old college basketball player whose life was tragically cut short in a rollover crash along Interstate 15 in the Cajon Pass.
Wallace, also known as Jhenéy Harris, was pronounced dead at the scene on Wednesday after a Hyundai Veloster carrying three adults reportedly rolled down an approximately 80-foot embankment along the notoriously dangerous stretch of highway.
According to reports, Wallace is believed to have been a passenger in the vehicle rather than the driver. The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation, and authorities have not yet released a complete account of what caused the vehicle to leave the roadway.
Two other occupants were critically injured and rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment. According to the San Bernardino County Fire Department, one person was airlifted from the scene, while another was transported up the steep embankment by rescue crews before being taken to an awaiting ambulance.
Reports indicate the other people in the vehicle were a friend of Wallace and the friend’s mother.
For Wallace’s family, the tragedy represents the unimaginable loss of a young woman whose life was filled with promise. Her mother, Tamara Wallace, remembered her daughter as her firstborn and best friend — someone who brought happiness and encouragement to those around her.
“She was a great daughter,” her mother said, describing Jhenéy as bubbly, loving, and always happy. She also remembered her as a devoted sister who brought joy and support to her younger siblings.
Beyond the basketball court, Wallace was cherished for her warmth, personality, and the positive energy she brought into the lives of those around her. Her athletic career represented only one part of a young life that had so much more ahead.
Her sudden death has left family, friends, teammates, and members of the Victorville community struggling to process the loss of a young woman who was deeply loved and admired.
As the investigation into the devastating Cajon Pass crash continues, those closest to Wallace are left to remember her through the moments, memories, and love she shared with them.
