Fred Marsh Obituary: 24-Year-Old Rogers Police Officer Dies in Tragic Elk River Drowning, Department Mourns Promising Young Officer

NOEL, MISSOURI — The Rogers Police Department and communities across the region are mourning the heartbreaking loss of Officer Fred Marsh, a 24-year-old first-year police officer who died in a tragic drowning incident on the Elk River near Noel, Missouri.

A massive search operation began Saturday night after authorities received reports of a man believed to have drowned in the river. The search continued as emergency crews worked to locate the missing individual, who was later confirmed to be Officer Marsh.

The Rogers Police Department announced that Marsh, who had recently begun his law enforcement career, was the person recovered from the river. He had graduated from the law enforcement academy in April and was serving as a dedicated member of the department.

Rogers Police Chief Jonathan Best shared the department’s grief following Marsh’s unexpected passing, describing the loss as devastating for everyone who knew and worked alongside him.

“This is a heartbreaking loss for our department,” Chief Best said. “Officer Marsh had a bright future ahead of him and had already made a positive impact on those who had the privilege of serving alongside him.”

Chief Best remembered Marsh as someone who brought enthusiasm, dedication, and a strong desire to serve others. He also expressed condolences to Marsh’s family, fiancée, and all those affected by his death.

“His willingness to serve others and the enthusiasm he brought to this profession will not be forgotten,” Best said. “Our hearts are with Fred’s family, his fiancée, and everyone who knew and loved him.”

Officer Marsh’s death has left fellow officers, department staff, friends, and community members grieving the loss of a young public servant whose career was only beginning.

Those who served with Marsh are remembering him for his commitment, positive attitude, and passion for making a difference. Although his time in law enforcement was brief, officials say his impact was meaningful and will not be forgotten.

As the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the drowning continues, the Rogers Police Department is asking the community to keep Marsh’s loved ones, officers, and professional staff in their thoughts and prayers.

Officer Fred Marsh will be deeply missed and forever honored for his service, dedication, and the promise he carried into his chosen profession. May he rest in peace, and may his family and loved ones find comfort during this unimaginable time of loss.
