NORTH PORT, FLORIDA — The North Port community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Anthony Luis Strahija, a beloved 20-year-old resident whose life was tragically cut short following a vehicle accident in Punta Gorda. His unexpected passing has left family, friends, classmates, teammates, and members of his faith community grieving a young man remembered for his kindness, faith, and joyful spirit.

According to reports from the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash occurred Thursday morning, July 16, 2026, on US-17 near Duncan Road in Punta Gorda. Authorities said Anthony was driving a Volkswagen GTI when the vehicle entered the intersection and collided with the trailer portion of a commercial Freightliner semi-truck that was turning toward the Interstate 75 entrance ramp. Anthony suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

News of Anthony’s death has brought profound sadness to those who knew him. Loved ones are remembering him as a vibrant young man whose smile, compassion, and positive energy left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to cross paths with him.
