AKRON, OHIO — The Akron community is mourning the tragic loss of a 19-year-old man who died following a shooting on the city’s south side Tuesday night, while a 27-year-old Akron man faces murder charges in connection with the fatal incident.
According to the Akron Police Department, officers responded at approximately 9:49 p.m. on July 14, 2026, to the 600 block of Callis Oval after receiving multiple reports of gunfire in the area.
When officers arrived, they discovered the teenage victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the torso. Emergency responders transported him to Cleveland Clinic Akron General, where medical staff attempted to save his life. Despite those efforts, he later died from his injuries.
Authorities identified 27-year-old Dmiere Simmons of Akron as the suspected shooter. Police said Simmons was taken into custody at the scene, and investigators recovered a firearm believed to have been involved in the shooting.
