AUBURN HILLS, MICHIGAN — The Pontiac community is mourning the tragic loss of KeShawn Emery, 20, who was killed in a shooting inside the Great Lakes Crossing Outlets in Auburn Hills. According to the Auburn Hills Police Department, officers responded at approximately 5:20 p.m. Saturday after reports of gunfire inside the shopping center. Investigators said the shooting followed an earlier altercation inside a food court bathroom that later escalated into another confrontation in a common area of the mall.
During the second confrontation, shots were fired, and Emery was struck. Emergency responders arrived at the scene, but he was pronounced dead at the location.
A 19-year-old woman was also injured during the shooting and was treated for injuries described by authorities as non-life-threatening.
The incident caused panic inside the busy shopping center, with witnesses describing a chaotic scene as shoppers ran for safety and the mall was quickly evacuated. Many visitors were left shaken as police secured the area and began their investigation.
Authorities said a 22-year-old Detroit man, who holds a Concealed Pistol License, remained at the scene, cooperated with investigators, and was taken into custody. The case will be reviewed by the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office as officials determine the next steps.
