BEAVERTON, OREGON — The Beaverton community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Jacob Tran, 14, a young student, athlete, and friend whose life was tragically cut short following a devastating crash at the intersection of Southwest Scholls Ferry Road and Southwest Barrows Road.
Candles, flowers, photographs, and messages of love now surround the area where friends and community members have gathered to remember Jacob. On Thursday, dozens of people came together to pray, share memories, and honor a teenager described as kind, hardworking, and someone who brought happiness to everyone around him.
According to the Beaverton Police Department, Jacob was riding an electric scooter through the crosswalk while wearing a helmet when he was struck by a vehicle driven by a 16-year-old driver on Wednesday morning. Jacob was transported for medical care but later died from his injuries.
Authorities said the driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators. The crash remains under investigation as officials continue working to determine the circumstances that led to the tragic collision.
Jacob was preparing to begin his freshman year at Mountainside High School and was on his way to a summer football workout when the accident occurred. His teammates and friends are now left grieving the loss of a young athlete who had already made a powerful impact on those around him.
