Owen Cannon Obituary: 17-Year-Old Waterloo Teen Identified as Homicide Victim on West 3rd Street

WATERLOO, Iowa — The Waterloo community is heartbroken after the tragic death of 17-year-old Owen Cannon of Waterloo, who has been identified as the victim in a homicide investigation.

According to the Waterloo Police Department, Black Hawk County Consolidated Dispatch received a 911 call at approximately 10:14 a.m. on Saturday, September 26, 2026, reporting a deceased individual in a bushy area in the 1000 block of West 3rd Street.

Responding officers located Owen’s body at the scene. During the investigation, police discovered evidence indicating that gunshots had been fired, leading authorities to investigate the death as a homicide.

The victim has been identified as 17-year-old Owen Cannon of Waterloo. Cannon was transported to the Iowa Office of the State Medical Examiner for an autopsy to be completed.

A 911 call was received around 10:15 AM reporting a body in the 1000 block of West 3rd Street, and officers found the teen dead in the brush along West Third Street.

At just 17 years old, Owen had so much life ahead of him. His sudden and tragic passing has left his family, friends, and the entire Waterloo community grieving and searching for answers.

Waterloo Police have released his identity and say the investigation is ongoing. Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward.
