Human Remains Found Near Lonoke County Mobile Home – Suspect Claude Smith Jr. Charged

LONOKE COUNTY, Ark. — A somber discovery has shaken a Lonoke County community after human remains were found in a wooded area near a home on Joe Baty Road.

Authorities identified the suspect as 32-year-old Claude Smith Jr., who is currently being held at the Pulaski County Detention Center. He is facing a charge of abuse of a corpse, with investigators saying more charges could be filed as the case develops. 😔

According to officials, the remains belonged to a man and were found Saturday near a mobile home. In a disturbing twist, investigators believe the victim was killed outside of Arkansas and later transported into the state.

The remains have been sent to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory, where the Medical Examiner will work to identify the victim and determine how and when he died.

Authorities said the state where the killing allegedly occurred will take the lead on the homicide investigation. Arkansas State Police will handle any crimes believed to have taken place in Arkansas.

Smith was previously arrested on Sept. 19 in North Little Rock on a felony fleeing charge. Investigators said he had allegedly been driving a vehicle belonging to the victim when he fled from law enforcement.

The investigation is still active, and authorities have not released additional details at this time. 🚨
