DILLON, SOUTH CAROLINA — A man shot Sept. 28 in Dillon has died, according to Dillon County Coroner Donnie Grimsley.
Grimsley has identified the victim as Dennis Caulder, 26.
An autopsy is being performed on his body, Grimsley said.
According to Dillon Police Chief Monroe Herring, Caulder was shot on Railroad Avenue near its intersection with West Palmetto Street and was airlifted to a hospital in critical condition.
Despite life-saving efforts after being airlifted, the 26-year-old tragically succumbed to his injuries, leaving his family and the Dillon community in deep mourning.
At just 26 years old, Dennis Caulder had his entire life ahead of him. His death following the shooting on Railroad Avenue has left loved ones facing a grief that no family should ever have to endure.
As the Dillon County Coroner’s Office conducts an autopsy, the Dillon Police Department is continuing its investigation into the shooting that took his life.
Chief Herring said anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the Dillon Police Department at 843-774-0051. Callers can remain anonymous, Herring said.
The loss of a young life to gun violence has shaken the Dillon community, with friends and family taking to social media to share their heartbreak and to remember the 26-year-old whose life was taken far too soon.
