SHREVEPORT, Louisiana — The family and loved ones of Derrick Coleman, 32, of Houston, Texas, are mourning his tragic death after he was fatally shot in the parking lot of a downtown Shreveport hotel early Monday morning.
According to the Shreveport Police Department, officers were dispatched at approximately 1:07 a.m. on Monday, July 20, 2026, to the 200 block of Lake Street, where the Holiday Inn Express & Suites is located. Police had received reports of a man suffering from gunshot wounds to his upper body.
When officers arrived, they found Coleman in the hotel parking lot and immediately began providing aid. He was later transported to Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport with life-threatening injuries.
Despite efforts to save his life, Coleman was pronounced dead at the hospital at approximately 7:19 a.m.
His sudden death has left family members and friends grieving the loss of a 32-year-old man whose life was tragically cut short.
Authorities have ordered an autopsy as investigators continue working to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Officials have not released additional details about a possible suspect, motive, or what led to the deadly incident.
Coleman’s death marks the 27th confirmed homicide in Shreveport in 2026, according to the information provided by authorities.
