JASPER COUNTY — A graduation celebration in Jasper County reportedly turned into a horrifying fight for survival when 18-year-old Lucas Stewart was stabbed twice, leaving him with life-threatening injuries to his heart and stomach.
During testimony, an emergency room doctor described Stewart’s condition when he arrived at the hospital as “pale, limp and nonresponsive.” Medical staff faced a critical situation as they worked to save the teenager’s life.
At one point, Stewart reportedly pleaded with medical personnel to pray with him to live, underscoring the severity of the injuries he had suffered.
According to testimony, Stewart sustained devastating wounds during the confrontation at the graduation celebration. Despite the seriousness of his condition, he survived and is expected to testify about what happened that night.
Rylan Joe Byrd, 20, is currently on trial on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in connection with the stabbing. The allegations against Byrd remain matters for the court, and he is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
