DORTON, Ky. — A Kentucky family is facing an unimaginable battle after 28-year-old James Honaker was critically injured in a devastating weekend crash in Dorton that left him fighting for his life.
According to reports, the crash occurred on U.S. 23 in Dorton while Kentucky State Police cruisers were parked in the median conducting safety enforcement. Honaker was operating a side-by-side vehicle when it collided with the back of one of the parked cruisers.
A trooper involved in the incident suffered a minor head injury and was able to walk away from the crash. Honaker, however, suffered catastrophic injuries and remains hospitalized in critical condition.
Family members say Honaker’s injuries include a traumatic brain injury, brain bleed, skull fractures, spinal injuries, a damaged neck artery, broken sternum, fractures to both arms, a severe femur injury, calf muscle loss, liver and colon lacerations, crushed ribs, multiple facial fractures, and severe lung injuries that have left him unable to breathe on his own.
Doctors have already performed surgery to stop internal bleeding from his liver, and Honaker has received multiple blood transfusions as medical teams continue fighting to save his life.
While James battles for recovery, his family is facing one of the most painful and difficult moments anyone can endure — waiting, praying, and making decisions no family should ever have to face.
Honaker is also a father of three young children, who are now waiting and hoping for their dad to come home.
A GoFundMe campaign has been started by his cousin, Bethany, to help with mounting medical expenses, support for his children, and the care needed during his long recovery. The family is asking for prayers, donations, and shares from anyone willing to help.
“Those three kids need their daddy,” loved ones said while asking the community to stand behind James and his family.
As the investigation into the crash continues, the focus remains on Honaker’s fight for survival and the family standing beside him.
Please keep James Honaker, his three children, and his loved ones in your thoughts and prayers as he continues his fight for life.
