A tragic crash following a police pursuit in Stratford, Warwickshire, has left one man dead and a woman fighting for her life, sending shockwaves through the local community.
The fatal collision happened on Monday evening, August 24, after officers attempted to stop a black Audi on Birmingham Road in Stratford at around 5:23 p.m. According to Warwickshire Police, the vehicle failed to stop and drove away in the direction of the A46.
The Audi later returned toward Stratford along the A439 Warwick Road before colliding with a white Ford Puma at approximately 5:44 p.m.
The male driver of the Audi suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene despite emergency responders’ efforts. The driver of the Ford Puma, a woman in her 70s, was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries and remains in critical condition.
A passenger in the Ford Puma also suffered potentially serious injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.
Emergency crews, including multiple ambulance teams and air ambulance services, rushed to the scene to provide urgent medical care. However, the injuries sustained by the Audi driver proved too severe to overcome.
Authorities have confirmed that the families of those involved have been informed and are receiving specialist support during this devastating time.
The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) has launched an independent investigation after the death occurred following police contact. Investigators are examining the circumstances leading up to the crash, and Warwickshire Police has confirmed it will fully cooperate with the inquiry.
The incident has left the Stratford community grieving as questions remain about the events that led to the devastating collision.
