FORT WORTH, Texas — What was supposed to be a joyful family vacation to South Padre Island ended in unimaginable tragedy after a wrong-way crash on a Texas highway claimed the lives of a mother and grandmother and left an 11-year-old girl facing a long road to recovery.
The devastating collision happened on August 18 on State Highway 121 in Fort Worth, where authorities said a Jeep was traveling the wrong way. Investigators said the Jeep first struck another vehicle before eventually crashing head-on into a white sedan carrying a family traveling toward South Padre Island.
Inside the sedan were 32-year-old Tyler Triplett, her mother Randi Holshouser, Tyler’s 11-year-old daughter Ranleigh, and an adult male driver.
Tyler and Randi were killed at the scene. The driver of the wrong-way Jeep also died in the crash.
Ranleigh survived but suffered devastating injuries. She was rushed to a hospital, where she has undergone several major surgeries to treat multiple broken limbs and a broken foot. She remains hospitalized as she begins what doctors and loved ones expect to be a lengthy recovery.
The adult man who was driving the family’s sedan is expected to survive.
For Ranleigh, the tragedy has changed her life in an instant. A young girl who was traveling with her mother and grandmother for what should have been a memorable family vacation is now facing recovery without the two people she was supposed to return home with.
Friends have remembered Randi as a kind, compassionate, and nonjudgmental woman who made people feel accepted and cared for. Loved ones are now turning their attention toward Ranleigh, surrounding her with prayers, encouragement, and support as she confronts both the physical injuries and emotional heartbreak left by the crash.
The circumstances surrounding the wrong-way collision remain under investigation.
For those who knew Tyler and Randi, the grief is overwhelming. For Ranleigh, the road ahead will involve healing from injuries while learning to navigate a future forever changed by the loss of her mother and grandmother.
What began as a family journey toward South Padre Island ended in a devastating loss. Tyler Triplett and Randi Holshouser will be deeply missed, while their loved ones continue to rally around Ranleigh and hope for strength, healing, and brighter days ahead.
