OAKWOOD, GEORGIA — The Oakwood community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Tia Keith, a 44-year-old woman who was fatally shot in what investigators describe as a targeted domestic violence attack at a Hall County convenience store.
According to the Hall County Sheriff’s Office, the deadly incident occurred Thursday night at Subhanallah Food Mart on Mountain View Road, where authorities say Keith was attacked by her former live-in boyfriend.
Investigators say Keith arrived at the store shortly after 9:30 p.m. to make a purchase. When she returned to her vehicle, authorities believe her former boyfriend was waiting inside the passenger seat.
Deputies say the suspect opened fire while Keith was inside the vehicle, striking her multiple times. Despite suffering serious injuries, investigators say Keith managed to escape and ran back into the store in an apparent attempt to seek help.
Authorities allege the suspect followed Keith inside the business and fired additional shots before fleeing the area in his own vehicle.
Keith was pronounced dead at the scene. A store clerk contacted 911, and deputies with the Hall County Sheriff’s Office, along with officers from the Oakwood Police Department, responded shortly afterward.
A clerk and a customer were reportedly inside the store at the time of the shooting, but no additional injuries were reported.
The suspect’s identity has not been released as authorities continue searching for him. Investigators say certain details are being withheld while the search remains active and due to concerns for officer safety.
News of Keith’s death has left family, friends, and members of the Oakwood community grieving the loss of a woman whose life was tragically cut short. Her death has also renewed concerns about the devastating consequences of domestic violence and the importance of supporting those who may be at risk.
