Christopher Johnston Obituary: 69, Killed in Wilmington Crash as Raleigh Woman Faces Charges; Six Children Were Inside Vehicle, Police Say

WILMINGTON, N.C. — A Wilmington community is mourning the loss of Christopher Johnston, 69, after a deadly crash on Carolina Beach Road late Friday night left a bicyclist dead and a driver facing multiple criminal charges.

According to authorities, Johnston was struck by a vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. His sudden passing has left family, friends, and community members grieving the loss of a life taken far too soon.

Police have charged Tierra Blackston of Raleigh in connection with the fatal collision. Court records allege that Blackston was impaired and driving recklessly when the crash occurred.

Authorities said there were six children between the ages of 3 and 10 inside the vehicle at the time of the crash. Investigators allege that the children were not properly secured in appropriate safety seats, adding additional concerns to the case.

Blackston faces several charges, including:
