ST. FRANCIS, WISCONSIN — A Wisconsin community is mourning the tragic death of Kiana Pilska, a 32-year-old Cudahy woman who was fatally shot Thursday evening at the Lake Park Apartments in St. Francis, in what authorities believe was a domestic-related incident.
According to the St. Francis Police Department, officers responded to the apartment complex following reports of a shooting. Pilska was found suffering from gunshot injuries and was transported to a local hospital, where she later died.
Authorities said a 33-year-old man is in custody as investigators continue examining the circumstances surrounding the deadly shooting.
The tragedy has drawn renewed attention to Pilska’s previous efforts to seek protection. Court records indicate that just hours before her death, she filed a second petition requesting a temporary restraining order against her former partner, stating that she feared she was in “imminent danger of physical harm.”
According to court documents, Pilska had previously sought legal protection in April, alleging that her ex-partner had stalked and threatened her. She reported finding an AirTag tracking device in her vehicle, described incidents where he allegedly appeared at her home and workplace, and detailed previous claims involving threats and physical violence.
That earlier restraining order request was dismissed after Pilska did not appear for a scheduled court hearing.
On Thursday, Pilska filed a new petition after allegedly experiencing additional incidents that caused her to fear for her safety. In the filing, she described repeated unwanted visits to her home, including an allegation that her ex-partner had kicked in her door.
A judge approved the temporary restraining order Friday morning — after Pilska had already lost her life.
News of Kiana’s death has left family, friends, and members of the Cudahy and St. Francis communities devastated. Loved ones are remembering her as a woman whose life was valued and whose loss has created an unimaginable void.
The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue gathering evidence and working to determine the full circumstances leading up to the shooting.
Pilska’s death has also sparked difficult conversations about domestic violence, survivor safety, and the importance of taking threats seriously before tragedy occurs.
Kiana Pilska will be deeply mourned by her family, friends, and everyone whose life she touched. Her memory will continue to live on as loved ones seek justice, healing, and answers. May she rest in peace.
