FORT PIERCE, FLORIDA — The Fort Pierce community is mourning the tragic loss of Andre Leonard Barnes, 66, whose life was cut short in a fatal shooting that has now led to a first-degree murder charge following an extensive investigation by the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office.
Barnes died after being shot during an incident at a residence on Essex Drive on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, leaving family members, friends, and loved ones grieving the loss of a man remembered by those closest to him.
According to the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded at approximately 3:30 p.m. to the 2700 block of Essex Drive after receiving reports of a person suffering from a gunshot wound.
Upon arrival, deputies learned that one adult male had allegedly shot another adult male with a rifle. Law enforcement officers immediately took the suspect into custody while rendering emergency medical aid to Barnes until personnel from the St. Lucie County Fire District arrived.
Barnes was transported to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Following several days of investigation, detectives with the Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division announced that Dale Andrew Mincey, 41, of Fort Pierce, has been formally charged with First-Degree Premeditated Murder in connection with Barnes’ death.
Authorities said Mincey remains in custody at the St. Lucie County Jail, where he is being held without bond pending further court proceedings.
