Hawkins Double Murder-Suicide Under Investigation: Three Adults Found Dead in Poplar Road Home

HAWKINS, WISCONSIN — The Hawkins community is mourning a heartbreaking tragedy after three adults were found dead inside a residence in what authorities believe was a double homicide followed by a suicide.

According to the Rusk County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched at approximately 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday, July 9, to conduct a welfare check at a residence located at N5766 Poplar Road in Hawkins.

When deputies arrived and entered the home, they discovered three deceased adults, each suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.

Following a preliminary investigation, Rusk County Sheriff Phillip Grassmann said investigators believe the incident was a double homicide and suicide based on evidence recovered at the scene.

“At this time, based on the preliminary investigation and evidence at the scene, we believe this to be a double homicide and a suicide,” Sheriff Grassmann stated in a news release.

Authorities have not released the identities of the deceased, explaining that the names are being withheld until all next of kin have been properly notified.

The tragic discovery has sent shockwaves through the small Hawkins community, where residents are grappling with the sudden loss of three lives. Family members, friends, and neighbors are left searching for answers as investigators continue working to determine the events leading up to the incident.

The Rusk County Sheriff’s Office remains the lead agency in the investigation, with assistance from the Hawkins Fire Department, Hawkins EMS, the Ladysmith Police Department, and the Rusk County Medical Examiner’s Office.
